Slow Cooker Chicken Tikka Masala

This healthy and delicious main dish pairs perfectly with your favorite Asian side dishes.

Serves 4 to 6

  • 1 ½ Pounds Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts or Thighs, 1 inch bite sized pieces (organic preferred)
  • (Opt) 1 Red Onion, wedges
  • 2 Cups Favorite Tika Masala Sauce (ReadyChefGo! Home Chef Tikka Masala recipe included below)
  • (Opt) ¼ cup plain yogurt if NOT included in sauce

Slow Cooker Bags. Add the diced chicken to the bag. I used boneless skinless organic chicken thighs. Add the red onion wedges if using. Pour the sauce on top & stir well to combine. Seal the bags. 

COOKING INSTRUCTIONS: Place sealed bag in slow cooker, pour warm water around the outside of the sealed bag to a depth of 2 inches to form a water bath, & set to 4 hours on high or 8 on low. Garnish with fresh cilantro, mild or hot chili peppers, scallions & rice or naan. I made organic whole grain sourdough 3 onion naan.

NOTE: Ready. Chef. Go! bags allow for excellent texture in the microwave & fast cooking in the oven. The results are always succulent & tender. You’ll taste the difference. Virtually no clean up. Scrumptious & versatile. The yogurt will add tang & tenderize the chicken while marinating. There are many excellent prepared Tikka Masala sauces. Some contain yogurt & some do not. You can make a fully diary & lactose free version by using EVOO, soy or coconut yogurt & coconut milk.

Ready Chef GO! Home Chef Chicken Tikka Masala Sauce (Yield 4 Cups)

  • ½ Cup plain yogurt
  • 2 Pounds boneless skinless organic chicken breasts or thighs
  • 2 Tbs EVOO or Ghee
  • 1 Large Onion, diced
  • 4 Cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 ½ Tbs Fresh Ginger, minced
  • ½ Tsp Salt
  • ½ Tsp Black Pepper
  • 1 Tbs Curry Powder
  • 1 Tbs Garam Masala
  • (Opt) 1 Tsp Turmeric
  • 2 Tbs Tomato Paste
  • 1 (15 Ounce Can) Diced Tomatoes
  • 15 Ounces Water (rinse out tomato can)
  • 1 Cup Heavy Cream or Coconut Milk

Cut the chicken into bite sized chunks & toss w/ yogurt. Load into RCG! slow cooker bag. Saute onion in oil until tender.  Add garlic, ginger, salt, spices & saute for 1 min. Add tomato paste & saute for 1 min more. Add tomatoes, water & cream or coconut milk & stir to combine. Bring to a simmer for 10 mins. Stir into the yogurt chicken mixture.
